RBC ABORIGINAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Open to all Aboriginal youth aged 14-19, priority will be given to youth are are actively playing a leadership role within their community. Designed to offer Aboriginal youth an opportunity to participate in Outward Bound, Canada's National Youth Leadership Scholarship Program. This scholarship is best suited to those students who are interested and invested in participating in an Outward Bound wilderness experience.

BC Aboriginal Youth Social Enterprise Contest, Deadline to apply February 20.

Aboriginal youth are finding ways to build better futures for themselves and their communities. Through social enterprise, Aboriginal youth can develop a way to earn a meaningful living while bringing a much needed service or product to their communities in a way that also helps their communities and/or the environment.

The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres’ (BCAAFC) annual Gathering Our Voices Aboriginal Youth Conference (GOV) has partnered with Urban Matters to co-host an Aboriginal Youth Social Enterprise Contest. The Sauder School of Business Centre for Social Innovation & Impact Investing at UBC is the delivery partner for the contest. Vancity Credit Union and the Rina M. Bidin Foundation are also sponsoring partners.

This contest will highlight the social enterprises that Aboriginal youth are developing throughout BC and encourage other Aboriginal youth to develop businesses that help their communities. The contest concludes with public presentations from contest finalists March 17 to 20, 2015 at the GOV 2015 conference in Prince George, B.C.

This contest will highlight social enterprises that Aboriginal youth, ages 14 – 29, are developing throughout BC. There are three categories: existing social enterprises, concept social enterprises and youth innovator award. Two cash prizes ($1,000 - $6,000) and expert business support will be awarded to two people or groups from each category.Deadline to apply: February 20, 4:00 PM

Awards and Scholarships

RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program, Award is up to $4,000 per year. Deadline to apply is Feburary 28, 2015.
YVR Arts Scholarship, deadline January 30, 2015. Up to 8 awards of $5000 each. Eligible Applicants: Are of BC First Nations ancestry Reside in BC and are between the ages of 16 and 26, are emerging artists whose artwork reflects the art forms of the BC First Nations, have the goal of becoming a professional artist, are accepted to study with a mentor or at a formal institution of learning, commit to attend the Scholarship Award ceremony in Vancouver on May 29th 2015 and the ceremony in recognition of the completed work, one year later, on May 27th 2016
Gilmore Church Scholarship, deadline, May 15. Award of $1000 to go to a student with Aboriginal ancestry who attends school in the Richmond School District. To apply: write a letter that shows evidence of: strong leadership skills (formally and/or informally); a connection to and pride for your cultural heritage; a commitment to service in the school or community; a consistent, focused approach to academic studies. Irving J. Barber Scholarship, deadline March 31. Awards of $1000-$5000 are available for Aboriginal students pursuing post-secondary education. See www.bcscholarship.ca/web/aborginal
BC Hydro Aboriginal Scholarships deadline - BC Hydro is proud to support education and skill development in B.C.'s Aboriginal communities and offers the following scholarships: • Eight $1,500 aboriginal scholarships, available to individuals who are status/non status Indians, Inuit or Métis and are residents of B.C. who plan to enroll in a full-time public post-secondary institution in Canada. Students pursuing an education in technology or engineering will be considered priority applicants, however general admission students are encouraged to apply. • One $2,000 Randy Brant Memorial scholarship based on a combination of academic achievement and outstanding community involvement.Completed scholarship packages should be post-marked on or before April 15 2014and mailed to: BC Hydro, Community Investment—Scholarship, 15th Floor, 333 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver, B.C. Aboriginal Arts and Stories Contest. Create a writing or art piece that explores a moment or theme in Aboriginal history or culture. This year's deadline is March 31, 2014, and is open to Canadians of Aboriginal ancestry (Status, Non-Status, Inuit and Métis) between the ages of 14 - 29. (New this year: our competition is open to emerging writers and artists between the ages of 11-13!) A 200-400 word Artist’s or Author’s Statement that explains how your piece reflects or interprets the moment or theme you selected must accompany your entry into the Aboriginal Arts & Stories competition.
