Youth Dance Workshops

February 28 - March 1: Coastal First Nations Dance Festival Workshops (Updated)The Coastal First Nations Dance Festival is hosted by the Dancers of Damelahamid and the Museum of Anthropology. As part of the festival there will be a series of youth dance workshops (ages 14 – 24) in partnership with the First Nations House of Learning. These workshops are a unique opportunity for youth to receive free mentorship under leading Indigenous dance artists.
Note: The dates for the following workshops have changed from a previous event listing.
“Hoop Dancing with Jessica McMann” will teach participants basic hoop moves, and encourage individual exploration through the Medicine Wheel teachings.
Tues, Feb 28, 2:30 – 3:30pm
Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall
“Mau Rakau with Charles Koroneho ” will teach participants Mau Rakau, a traditional Maori martial arts training with a wooden staff to improve mobility, speed, hand-eye coordination and spatial orientation.
Wed, Mar 1, 2:30-3:30pm
Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall
